What makes a farmers market special? Fresh fruits and veggies, local artisan fare, friendly community ... and live music. This November, select Miami farmers markets will host nine live classical, jazz and contemporary musical performances by the South Beach Chamber Ensemble, the Wim Forstmann Jazz Ensemble and guitarist Carlos Andrade as part of the Music @ the Markets free pop-up program.

“By bringing together local musicians and local farmers, we’re creating a unique way for people to support both of these communities while enjoying the great outdoors during November’s pleasant weather,” says Pola Reydburd, president of A Greener Miami, the not-for-profit arts presented that has teamed up with The Market Company to offer the live performance series.

November performance venues include the Monday night farmers’ markets at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Thursday afternoon market at the UM Medical Center campus. The four Arsht Center performances feature guitarist Carlos Andrade from 5:30-7:30pm accompanying chef Allen Susser’s farm-to-table dinners served al fresco in front of the Arsht Center’s historic Carnival Tower. To buy dinner tickets, call the Café at Books & Books at 786-405-1745. The Saturday farmers’ market at the Normandy Village Fountain Plaza will host two midday performances, while a single performance will be presented at Homestead’s Verde Community Farm & Market.

Music @ the Markets is made possible by funding from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The Arsht Center markets are funded in part with a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
