Liberty City's Cerasee Farm Gets Attention
Liberty City’s Cerasee Farm, an Urban GreenWorks project, is in the news. Here, formerly incarcerated women tend the garden on three formerly deserted lots, gaining skills and training (and fresh produce). Producers from ABC’s daytime food talk show The Chew showed up recently to shoot their story.
“It was wonderful to meet some of the women from the Mustard Seed program and see how this changed their lives,” says field producer Becky Horvath. The show was scheduled to air April 19. Meanwhile, Jayme Gershen is also working on a documentary about the program, "Green is the new Orange." (You can watch a trailer on YouTube). Cerasee Farm grows and sells food to the community, an urban food desert, and provides produce for farmers markets, neighborhood restaurants and a corner store in Lemon City.
