Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida proved they were up to the challenge in their 8th annual signature outdoor cooking competition at Camp Mahachee in Coral Gables. About 80 Girl Scouts from Miami-Dade and the Keys teamed up to prepare recipes using only outdoor cooking methods and one secret ingredient – tortillas. Dishes were cooked onsite and judged on presentation, creativity and taste by local celebrity chef judges.

This year's winner of the Golden Spoon was Team Fairy Glitter Moon Sparkles with Girl Scouts from Troop 739. They made Mini Arepa Sandwiches with black beans, cheese and seasoning, cooked in a pie iron, a hinged appliance that makes sandwiches, hand pies and other foods over a campfire.
